Songs, and the people who write them.

Sun Dogs is a small, one-person thing run by Winnipeg songwriter Doug McArthur. It's built around two ideas: a songwriter showcase that happens every couple of months in Winnipeg, and a handful of small writing retreats out on Lake of the Woods each year. That's the whole operation — no staff, no funnel, just somebody who likes getting people in a room to work on songs.

A listening room, every couple of months

A few times a year, Sun Dogs puts on a songwriter showcase at The Handsome Daughter in Winnipeg — a small room, a handful of songwriters, and an audience that's actually there to listen. It's set up more like a workshop than a concert: people share works in progress, try things out loud, and talk about how the songs came together.

A few days away, out on the lake

A couple of times a year, a small group heads out to Lake of the Woods for a long weekend of writing, sharing songs, and mostly staying off our phones. Spots are kept small on purpose — it works better that way.
